The Benefits of Inclusion And Diversity

After thoughtful consideration, we just announced changes to the ASI benefits plan. I’m especially pleased about our addition of another national holiday, because I think it is in the true spirit of inclusion and diversity that is so important, especially today.

Here’s our message to colleagues:

ASI believes our diversity makes us stronger as a company. To demonstrate our commitment to diversity and to remember how fragile life is without vigilance, beginning in 2019 employees will have a choice of observing either Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day or International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

We urge employees to use their selected holiday as a “day on” – for service, volunteering to help those less fortunate or to further the cause of acceptance and tolerance. To help, we’ll offer some suggestions for local volunteering, along with educational programming near those two holidays to help all of us remember and learn.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed the third Monday of January and honors Dr. King’s belief that people should be free to live and to perform to the best of their abilities without regard to color, creed, race or national origin. Dr. King was the leader of the nonviolent civil rights movement that protested widespread racial discrimination in state and federal laws.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed January 27, the day in 1945 that the largest World War II concentration and death camp was liberated. The Holocaust began with the legalized social discrimination of people based on their religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or political beliefs and resulted in the eventual deaths of 6 million Jewish people, 5 million Slavs, 3 million ethnic Poles, 200,000 Romani people, 250,000 mentally and physically disabled people and 10,000 homosexual men.

I want to thank a number of my colleagues and Facebook friends who helped finalize this addition, as well as a number of other changes, namely ASI’s Matthew Cohn, Stephanie Cohn Schaeffer and Carol Albright. (Other changes include more vacation for some levels of service years and increasing to 12 weeks the number of free onsite daycare we provide to help ease the financial and emotional strain of new parents.)

We’re hiring! So, if you want to work at a good company with great benefits, please check our careers page: https://www.asicentral.com/asicareers.
