5 Ideas for Using WGSN’s 2025 Color of the Year

Future Dusk, a dark, moody hue between blue and purple, is versatile enough to work with a variety of product categories.

The future is dark – at least, according to trend forecaster WGSN.

The company, along with color system Coloro, recently announced Future Dusk as the Color of the Year for 2025. Future Dusk is a dark, moody hue, sitting between blue and purple. The shade feeds into themes of transition, whether it’s moving from dark to light or dusk to dawn, making it ideal for times of immense change, according to WGSN and Coloro.

Future Dusk

Future Dusk, a shade from color system Coloro, is the 2025 Color of the Year, as chosen by trend forecaster WGSN.

“Color that brings a sense of reassurance will be key for 2025, and we will see captivating, tinted darks gaining momentum,” said Urangoo Samba, head of color for WGSN. “In the near future, the lines between reality and fantasy will become more blurred than ever – Future Dusk is an immersive and transformative color, aligned with this direction.”

Future Dusk is a modern alternative to navy and can be elevated with metallic finishes to “create a celestial allure” or “applied to 3D renders to move it into the metaverse,” according to WGSN and Coloro.

“For several seasons now, Coloro has seen brands shifting toward palettes with long-lasting appeal,” said Caroline Guilburt, creative content lead for Coloro. “Future Dusk is an inspiring color that supports this trans-seasonal approach.”

Each season, WGSN experts choose tones for the company’s forecasts directly from Coloro’s library of more than 3,500 colors. Last year, it predicted Apricot Crush as the hue to watch for 2024.

Here are ideas for leveraging this trendy color in five product categories.
