DHL Hiking Rates in 2022

The courier will increase pricing by an average of 5.9% for U.S. account holders, which include promotional products firms.

Promotional products companies in the United States and other businesses across industries that use DHL Express to ship will be paying more to do so next year.

The Germany-headquartered courier/package delivery service announced Friday, Oct. 1, that it’s increasing pricing on shipments by an average of 5.9%, effective Jan. 1, 2022. Some optional services and surcharges will also increase. The price hike for 2022 follows average annual price jumps of 4.9% in 2021 and 5.9% in 2020.

DHL said the price increases are necessary to cover costs associated with inflation and its infrastructure improvement, the latter of which centers on investing $360 million in new/upgraded facilities in the Americas and building up its freighter fleet to accommodate skyrocketing demand generated by e-commerce.

“The adjustment allows the company to … strengthen the resilience against crises and provide the needed capacity growth due to rising customer demands,” DHL said in a statement.

In the U.S., DHL primarily runs international delivery services. Domestic operations are limited. The company noted that the increase applies to U.S. account holders shipping to and from the 220 countries and territories that DHL Express services.

A specific guide to the 2022 rates will be published when available, DHL said. “Depending on local conditions, price adjustments will vary from country to country, and will apply to all customers where contracts allow,” the company said.

FedEx, UPS and the United States Postal Service are also increasing rates and implementing holiday season surcharges.
