National Safety Apparel Acquires King Louie

King Louie is a supplier that specializes in USA-made/union-made apparel. This is NSA’s second acquisition of a firm that sells in the promo products market in four years.

National Safety Apparel (NSA) has acquired King Louie, an Overland, KS-based promotional products supplier that specializes in the manufacture and sale of union-made, manufactured-in-the-U.S. shirts, outerwear and women’s wear.

Financial terms of the deal, which was announced in January 2022, were not released. King Louie, which has been in business since 1937, was formerly an ASI-listed supplier.

The deal marks NSA’s second acquisition of an apparel manufacturer with ties to the promo products space and that has a union-made/U.S.-made business model: In 2018, NSA purchased Rubin Brothers, a Chicago-based apparel supplier, with roots stretching back to 1907, that goes to market as Union Line (asi/92508).

NSA noted that adding experienced team members through the Rubin Brothers acquisition helped lay the groundwork for the King Louie deal.

“In today’s challenging labor market, we’re always looking at innovative ways to grow our U.S. manufacturing capacity and employ American workers,” said NSA CEO Chuck Grossman. “Acquiring King Louie allows us to increase our output to better serve our customers and sustains NSA’s commitment to U.S. manufacturing.”

Founded in 1935 in Cleveland, OH, by Wally Grossman and now in its fourth generation of family ownership, NSA designs and manufactures union-/U.S.-made industrial safety apparel and military apparel. The company provides garments for wearers in the electrical and gas utilities industry, steel mills and aluminum foundries, glass plants, construction, manufacturing and the armed forces.

Since 2012, NSA has made about 10 acquisitions, which includes the King Louie and Rubin Brothers/Union Line deals. In December 2021, NSA acquired Enespro, a company launched in 2018 that specializes in personal protective equipment for electrical workers.

Adding to our high-visibility and FR clothing lines and combining those additions with our cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities has allowed us to provide hi-vis, flash fire and arc flash hazard protection to workers that face these hazards on a larger scale.”
