MasterCast Acquires Superb Case

Both promotional products suppliers are located in Rhode Island.

Pawtucket, RI-based MasterCast Ltd (asi/69240) has acquired fellow Ocean State supplier Superb Case (asi/90230). Financial terms of the deal were not immediately released.

Joshua Katseff, VP and general manager at MasterCast, said all of Superb Case’s production and customer service will be moved from its Cranston, RI facility to MasterCast’s Pawtucket factory. Superb Case’s products will be added to Marken Industries (asi/68760), a subsidiary of MasterCast. Both Superb Case and Marken feature Made-in-the-USA emblematic products, Katseff said.

“The consolidation of Superb Case into Marken Industries should be completed by the end of February,” said Katseff.

Superb Case specializes in metal bookmarks, business card cases and pewter finish ornaments for the promotional products industry, executives said. The company website says that two-thirds of the line is Made-in-the-USA. “Superb's roots trace back to 1927, when the initial business focused on tool-making and the manufacture of precious metal jewelry,” the website states. “The company also expanded into costume jewelry, watch bracelets, private label manufacturing and souvenirs in subsequent decades. Superb evolved and entered the promotional products arena in the early 1980's.”

MasterCast has been in business since 1976. The firm strictly manufactured Lucite/acrylic products until 1990 when it merged with a company called Narragansett Promotions, a manufacturer of emblematic jewelry sold primarily to fraternal organizations. MasterCast’s main product lines are emblematic/recognition jewelry, golf accessories, Lucite embedments including printed cards and photographs, and acrylic awards.
