COVID CHANGES: BEL’s office employees have been working from home since the onset of the pandemic, while all production employees, HR and limited IT support are in person. The office is open to those who wish to come in. BEL could eventually institute a hybrid model that combines remote and in-office work, but there’s no rush. “The work-from-home environment is extremely popular and is very helpful for us in talent acquisition, as well as current employee satisfaction,” says Alan Tabasky, senior vice president/general manager.

BEL has undertaken initiatives to keep the company culture strong and ensure employees feel valued in the remote-work world. There are daily Zoom meetings in which work talk and friendly socialization occur, plus team-building virtual meetings with games and incentives, as well as virtual celebrations of birthdays and holidays. “This has helped us keep some of our traditions alive,” shares Tabasky.

Parting Tip: Ensure employees feel valued, supported and can see a path forward with your firm. “In a period where there’s a ‘Great Resignation’ happening,” says Tabasky, “employees value things like understanding their career path, feeling like they’re part of a team and flexibility in their workdays.”
