The Bright Side: Stormtech Donates $170,000 in Apparel to Wildfire Victims in Northwest Territories

The Top 40 supplier partnered with Women in Need Society to get garments into the hands of residents to the north, who have been under threat from fires since August.

A Canadian supplier is doing its part to help with wildfire relief.

Top 40 firm Stormtech (asi/89869) in Burnaby, BC, has committed to donating $170,000 worth of essential apparel to victims of recent wildfires in the Northwest Territories. The company partnered with Calgary-based charitable organization Women in Need Society (WINS) to facilitate the donation.

Stormtech partnered with WINS to donate apparel to residents of the Northwest Territories.

“As a company deeply rooted in our community, we feel a strong responsibility to support those in need during times of crisis,” said Blake Annable, president and CEO of Stormtech. “The wildfire situation in the Northwest Territories has brought about immense hardships for the affected individuals and families. We hope to provide some comfort and relief to those who have been impacted.”

Thousands of people in the Northwest Territories were ordered to evacuate in August as wildfires ravaged the area – including the capital of Yellowknife, home to 20,000 people. Residents were finally allowed to return this week. However, 235 fires continue to burn in the region, including near Fort Smith and Hay River; residents of those towns are still under evacuation orders and a state of emergency is in place until at least Sept. 11.

“We believe in the strength of community and the power of solidarity,” said Karen Ramchuk, president and CEO of WINS. “By joining forces [with Stormtech], we’re striving to create a collective impact that will resonate far beyond these trying circumstances. Together, everyone wins.”

The donation is part of Stormtech’s 1:1 Initiative, a philanthropic program launched in 2018. The supplier also donated $500,000 worth of apparel to victims of the earthquakes in Turkey this past spring.
