Redwood Classics Sister Company Celebrated by GoDaddy Canada, Toronto Raptors

Social Textiles has been recognized in honor of Asian Heritage Month. Kathy Cheng founded the sustainable print company in 2019.

Sustainable print company Social Textiles, sister company to Redwood Classics Apparel (asi/81627) in Toronto, has been honored by website domain company GoDaddy Canada and the Toronto Raptors NBA team for Asian Heritage Month, recognized in May in Canada.

Founded in 2019 by Kathy Cheng, founder and president of Redwood Classics Apparel, Social Textiles is a roll-to-roll fabric printer that features sustainable all-over print technology using biodegradable ink, as well as low minimums, which mitigates water and fabric waste. Products are California Prop 65-compliant and OEKO-TEX Standard 100-certified, and the company holds the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) for its organic textile use.

As part of the company’s recognition, GoDaddy and the Raptors created and released a special video on the history of Redwood Classics and Social Textiles and their impact on sustainability and diversity in the textile industry. The video features Canadian Jamaal Magloire, a former NBA player who’s now a basketball development consultant and community ambassador for the Raptors.

“We are honored to be featured by GoDaddy Canada and the Raptors,” said Cheng, who’s also a member of ASI’s Promo for the Planet advisory board. “Not only does this video celebrate our Asian heritage, but it also brings sustainability and supplier diversity into the conversation – two topics that we are extremely passionate about.”

In March, Redwood Classics announced a new collaboration with Canadian garment upcycling company Preloved to offer a collection of three functional, handcrafted bags made out of single-use street-pole banners from the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.
