When companies throughout the United States sent their employees home in mid-March, most expected to be back in the office by now. That hasn’t been the case for Nashville, TN-based On Promos Powered by Proforma (asi/491390). In this Promo Insiders episode, co-owner Kimble Bosworth tells senior writer John Corrigan how she and her husband transitioned the company to working remotely, offering plenty of tips and strategies along the way.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Bosworth worked from home off and on for 20 years. However, this is the first time she’s only been able to visit clients virtually rather than in person. “The first 2 weeks of work from home, I kept getting interrupted on Zoom calls by ‘What is that bourbon behind you,’” Bosworth says. “My backdrop was the bar at the edge of our kitchen island. So, after too many delays, I flipped the workspace around and now there is some lovely art behind me and I can keep all the bourbon to myself.”

An extrovert raised on southern hospitality, Bosworth misses that in-person interaction with clients, friends and family. Relying on the power of promo, she created rubber “emotional support ducks” and shipped them out or dropped them off at her fellow extroverts’ homes. “I’ve also been sending cards and randomly calling contacts I would have normally seen in person just to check in,” Bosworth says. “It’s not as satisfying as the in-person squeal and hug we are used to, but it helps.”
