Even though we’re four months into a new year, it still feels like the calendar should say March 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been this never-ending season of uncertainty, full of health concerns, economic hardship and duress. It’s been challenging to maintain some semblance of normalcy, clinging on to the belief that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

In this Promo Insiders podcast, Senior Writer John Corrigan chats with Steve Sewell, a grief counselor, trainer, author, speaker and organization encourager. Sewell has recently conducted two webinars for ASI University, one of which is “How to Thrive and Nurture Hope During a Prolonged Crisis.” As a teaser for the webinar, Sewell shares principles and strategies for navigating this season of uncertainty.

Busier than ever, Sewell has adapted to the pandemic by providing counseling in new ways, such as over Zoom or via text. He’s been helping patients deal with a variety of issues, both in their personal and professional lives. After all, the line has never been blurrier. “We’re still coming to terms with this dysfunctional setting that we’ve been in,” Sewell says.

Sewell suggests that we need three different kinds of people in our lives: longtime friends, professional friends and a counselor. “We want people who know us very well and will give us feedback and pushback,” Sewell says. “People that will be present for us. Sometimes, just talking about the various things going on in our lives is what we need.”
