Best Practices for Virtual Events

Event expert shares strategies for creating successful events during COVID and speculates on what the future holds.

The coronavirus pandemic has put in-person events and conferences on hold, but virtual shows have cropped up to take their place. Not every COVID-era event has been a resounding success, however. Switching to virtual requires a different set of tools and considerations. Barry Myers, founder of getgeeked Media experienced this firsthand when he launched his first online event connecting members of the media with tech companies, after having spent years organizing in-person shows.

Berry MyersI don’t think in 2021 that you’re going to see a resurgence of live events. I think going beyond that virtual will be here to stay. Barry Myers, getgeeked Media

In this episode of Promo Insiders, Myers talks with Theresa Hegel, executive editor of digital content at ASI, about what he learned as he put together his Techfluence event, what aspects of virtual were more effective than in-person events and what is still missing from online meetups. Myers also discussed the future of events and how a hybrid model, with some aspects in person and some online, might become the norm in a post-COVID world.
