Top 10 ESP Searches: Demand for Stanley Continues To Soar

The retail drinkware, available from select industry suppliers, looks poised to remain in demand through the end of the year.

A trendy piece of drinkware remains in high demand in the promo industry, and appears likely to continue its dominance in Q4 and beyond.

This video from ASI Research shows the Top 10 ESP search terms from July 2022 through September 2023. “Stanley” cracked the Top 10 from mid-August through September of this year.

According to new findings from ASI Research, the Top 10 Q3 ESP search terms remained largely consistent compared to both the same quarter last year as well as Q2. But one trend jumped out: searches for “Stanley,” which came in at number 11, just below the Top 10. “Yeti,” another mega-popular retail drinkware brand in recent years, was 13th in Q3 2022 but was not ranked among the 15 most popular terms in Q3.

“Stanley” refers to the Stanley 40 oz. Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler – a retail item (and influencer-driven status symbol) that started going viral about a year ago. Indeed, ESP data shows that, among the Top 100 ESP search terms, demand for “Stanley” in ESP grew 353% between Q2 and Q3 2023.

Among other terms that saw a significant increase in search frequency in the same time frame were “fidget spinner” (91%) and “pickleball,” which had a search increase of 318% between Q2 and Q3 of this year.

Distributors can expect demand for seasonal items to increase in the last three months of the year – data from Q3 and Q4 last year shows that “gloves,” “beanie” and “holiday gifts” all had three-digit percentage rises in search frequency.

Meanwhile, with more spooky activities and parties planned in 2023 following three years of COVID, demand for “Halloween” increased 1,451% when comparing Q3 of 2022 and Q3 of 2023.

“Searches for items like ‘Halloween’ and ‘ornaments’ skyrocketed in Q3, as did searches for “Stanley,” the new drinkware of choice for suburbanites everywhere,” says Nate Kucsma, senior executive director of ASI Research. “As we get ready for the end of year, don’t wait to order blankets and the aforementioned Stanleys – two items sure to be in high demand as the weather gets colder.”

At the same time, demand for “ceramic coffee mugs” and “stainless steel tumbler” fell 46% and 42% respectively quarter to quarter.

Drinkware retailer Stanley, founded in 1913, has long been known for durable pieces designed for worksites and outdoor leisure activities. Suppliers that offer the 40 oz. Quencher H2.0 FlowState, like Top 40 supplier PCNA (asi/66887) and Top 40 supplier Starline (asi/89320), have recently announced they’re restocking inventory ahead of what’s poised to be intense Q4 demand.
