Fire Hazard Prompts Recall of Branded Chargers

The tech accessory was used in an employee redemption program for a Wisconsin insurance company.

Manitowoc, WI-based distributor Towsleys (asi/345900), in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a recall for approximately 1,500 wireless chargers that it provided for an end-client’s company program.

The 3-in-1 Qi Wireless Chargers, made in China and sold to Towsleys by Fair Lawn-NJ based Concap Sportswear (asi/46187), can overheat and pose a fire risk. According to the recall, Towsleys has so far received four reports of incidents, two of which resulted in fires. One fire caused $6,000 worth of property damage, according to the consumer who reported it. No injuries have been reported.

The wireless chargers can also be used as 6700 mAh power banks and travel wall chargers. They’re shaped as white squares with a two-pronged wall plug and three USB ports on the opposite side. Towsleys offered the chargers in an online store as part of an employee corporate redemption program for Sheboygan, WI-based Acuity Insurance. The item features the Acuity Insurance heart logo.

Recalled Charger

Counselor has reached out to Towsleys and Concap Sportswear for comment.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the chargers and contact Towsleys to receive a credit for a free replacement charger and instructions on disposing of the recalled products,” said the CPSC in the official recall notice.

Towsleys can be contacted at (888) 510-0488 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by email at recall@towsleys.com. Concap Sportswear can also be contacted at recall@go2cap.com. Visit www.towsleys.com/pbrecall for more information.
