Chameleon Like Earns B Corp Certification

The supplier joins a growing movement of industry companies being recognized for their commitment to social and environmental responsibility.

Chameleon Like (asi/44558) has joined the B Corp movement. The Gilroy, CA-based supplier of journals, accessories and packaging announced that it’s been certified as a B Corporation by B Lab, the nonprofit that recognizes companies committed to social and environmental responsibility.

“We are makers at heart,” said Pierre Martichoux, founder and CEO of Chameleon Like. “As a company, we have always strived to make sustainable products and create a positive impact in the industry, so this certification is an important milestone for us. It validates our efforts to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner and provides us with a framework to continue improving and evolving.”

B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. The rigorous certification process evaluates a company’s impact on its employees, suppliers, community and the environment.

Chameleon Like underwent a thorough assessment of its operations, including an evaluation of its impact on the environment, its social responsibility practices and corporate governance. The process “really forces you to take a look at your consumption … and your impact across your manufacturing,” Camila Linaweaver, general manager, said last year as the supplier was in the midst of its assessment.

Nearly 90% of Chameleon Like’s sales are Made-in-the-USA products, and the supplier uses an array of sustainable materials in its offerings, including recycled paper, recycled and recyclable foam and recycled “ecoshred” filler material for kitting. The supplier is also a member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of its packaging sales to environmentally focused nonprofits. It donates 5% of sales of its paperzen line to underfunded public schools through Donors Choose. Over the past 18 months, the supplier has donated more than $173,000 to over 15 charitable organizations, according to its website.

“Our volunteer work at Second Harvest Food Bank, Sea Huggers and Target Hunger, to name a few, fuels our employees and empowers our communities,” said Cesar Gonzalez, director of employee engagement and sustainability at Chameleon Like.

Founded in 1998, Chameleon Like is part of a growing contingent of promotional products suppliers and distributors that have become B Corps. In September 2022, Brand Fuel (asi/145025) earned its B Corp certification. Other distributors to earn the distinction in recent years include EcoPlum (asi/185835), Full Line Specialties (asi/199688), Harper + Scott (asi/220052) and McCabe Promotional Advertising Inc. (asi/264901). The Do-Gooders Directory on ASI Media’s Promo for the Planet page lists other industry companies that have B Corp certification, along with various giveback programs, charitable initiatives and sustainability certifications they’ve attained.
