The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled Boy Scouts of America outdoor activity pins for Cub Scouts due to lead content.

The rhomboid-shaped pins are silver with a gold animal paw painted on a blue background. About 78,000 of the pins were sold in Boy Scouts retail stores and authorized distributors nationwide and online at scoutshop.org from April 2016 through January 2020 for about $1 each. The pins were made in China and imported by Symbol Arts of Ogden, UT, for the Boy Scouts of America.

The pin’s face and shaft contain levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content ban. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues. No injuries or incidents with the pins have been reported. Consumers should immediately take the recalled pins away from children and return them to any Boy Scouts of America retail store or contact the Boy Scouts’ National Distribution Center for a full refund, including shipping, or a merchandise credit.
