Hot Pink Adds an Element of Fun to Apparel

Hot pink is the new millennial pink, according to a recent article in W magazine. Fuchsia exudes confidence and femininity, and the shade was all over New York Fashion Week in the fall. Celebrity trend-setters Rihanna and Gigi Hadid have both sported the vibrant hue in recent months. Rihanna was decked out in a hot pink track suit, and Hadid has been spotted on separate occasions in a fuchsia turtleneck and fuzzy pink mules.

According to Vogue, “shocking pink” first came into fashion back in the 1930s, thanks to the surreal stylings of designer Elsa Schiaparelli. Of course, to most people, the shade is almost synonymous with another decade. “[Neon] is fun to wear, fun to be around. For some, it probably is a comforting reminder of childhood days in the ’80s,” says John Perez of Tri-Mountain (asi/92125). “On the other hand, for others, it could make them cringe, depending on your experience in the ’80s.”

Still, fuchsia is an undeniable attention-grabber. Perez recommends using the bright color to add energy to corporate events or for youth-focused promotions. It’s best to embellish such pieces with a darker color. “I always recommend high contrast, so an embellishment with a dark color,” Perez says. “But neon colors are so bright, almost any color will work.”
