I Earned My BASI: Suzanne Shea

I Earned My BASI: Suzanne SheaSuzanne Shea is the owner of both Sand Scripts (asi/318042) and AdBibLine (asi/30132). As a pioneer in putting the print industry online, she is very proud to create unique, custom printed products for customers around the world. She says, “We have always been in the business of bringing joy to people with our products that provide perfect finishing touches to their events.” She earned her BASI in February 2017.

Who in the business world do you admire most or strive to emulate?
Women business owners; women who work full-time. There’s a lot to juggle, keeping tabs on a business and a family while still maintaining your individuality and independence.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Not to feel guilty about taking an occasional breather for myself. Whether it’s a walk on the boardwalk or through a department store, or just a pedicure, a time-out for ME every once in a while is OK.

What’s one thing you’d do to improve the ad specialty industry?
I’d make sure all customers know how to correctly submit artwork! Most people submit electronic art that is not acceptable as is; it’s really important that they follow the submission directions – it saves time for them and their clients alike.

What’s on your business and personal bucket list?
Exhibiting at more trade shows and more travel – they go hand in hand!

What’s one sentence you’d like to hear from your boss?
“Great job. You really do make a difference; I’m glad you’re on my team!”

If you could choose an age to remain forever, which age would you choose? Why?
I’ve found peace within all of my “age brackets.” Life is ever-changing and I embrace all challenges, perks and differences that I’ve encountered while “maturing.”

What does it take to succeed?
Hard work. There are no handouts in life; life is hard, and there are sacrifices that you would never expect. But struggles bring rewards. When times are tough, you need to believe there is a balance out on the horizon. Persevere, be a good person, help others, be there for all who you love at all times, and never stop dreaming – and always follow those dreams.
