Philly Print Company Capitalizes on ‘Moment Merch’ With Eagles ‘Double-Doink’ Tees

After the Philadelphia Eagles’ narrow win this past Sunday night against the Chicago Bears, a Philadelphia-area T-shirt company is seeing huge demand for screen-printed T-shirts commemorating the night’s big moment in what’s the latest major example of the “moment merch” trend.

With 10 seconds left in the game, Bears’ kicker Cody Parkey missed a 43-yard field goal, resulting in a 16-15 win for the Eagles. In a stunning twist, the football hit the side of the goal post, hit the crossbar, and then fell to the ground.

In the days since, the moment has been memorialized as the “Double-Doink,” referring to the two contacts the ball made with the goalpost. And now, local T-shirt printers are meeting huge demand for “Double-Doink” shirts.

One such company is Rush Order Tees in Northeast Philly, which expects to print thousands of shirts over the next few weeks.

“Anytime a Philadelphia team is in the playoffs, we see sales and orders come pouring in,” content manager Drew Smith told CBS Philly. “The Eagles is our main focus right now. All of our printers are just covered with green T-shirts, black T-shirts. I think everybody already knows this, but the ‘double-doink’ was absolutely huge…The playoffs, not only is it fun to watch, but it’s definitely good for business, too.”

The “Double-Doink” shirts are the latest in a long line of popular T-Shirts tied to memorable moments in sports and entertainment, such as the Houston Astros’ “Dream Crushing” moment, the Cleveland Rally Possum, the Laurel/Yanny controversy and more. Savvy apparel companies are scoring success by rapidly imprinting branded items that commemorate widely-shared moments, often driven by social media traffic.
