Proof of the Longevity of Promotional Products

Why do people keep promos for 10, 20, even 30 years? The ASI Media editors explain using their own beloved possessions.

We all know the perception of promotional products as “cheap plastic junk you throw away.” We also know the reality is far different than the perception. In fact, 40% of U.S. consumers who own promotional products keep some of them for more than 10 years. That’s a lot of bang for your advertising buck.

What compels people to keep a promo product for more than a decade? The editors of ASI Media speak from experience in this episode of Promo Insiders by discussing and showing off their cherished promos that are more than 10 years old. (OK, most of them – there are a couple prized possessions that are a little newer but equally loved.) And in doing so, they reveal the secrets to long-lasting promos.

“Those are two of the big themes from this discussion,” said Digital News Director Christopher Ruvo. “Sometimes we save things for sentimental reasons, and other times there’s no sentimental connection at all. It’s ‘Hey, this thing is useful.’ And that usefulness and durability gives it longevity.”

In this episode, Ruvo, Sara Lavenduski, Theresa Hegel and C.J. Mittica reveal how their prized promos became a fixture in their lives, whether it’s college gear, travel souvenirs, personalized gifts or …. an ALF alarm clock? You’ll just have to listen to get the full story.
