Some say the fashion world is a bit of a jungle. In the case of this latest fashion trend, they’re certainly right. Safari-influenced style isn’t a single fashion movement, but rather the combination of many different styles, colors and accessories brought together create a look that recalls an African safari.
There are a number of basic styles that go a long way toward giving your wardrobe that safari feel. A big part is the color palette, which stresses sun-bleached or earth tones, so think natural colors such as beige, white, khaki, olive and brown. These act as base colors that can be combined with small flourishes of bright red, yellow and orange for accents.
From Outback Trading Co. (asi/75401), the Ladies’ Excursion Jacket (style 3405) features classic safari styling with epaulets, four button-through pockets and a sash belt.
From JoAnn Marie Designs (asi/63381), the Mini Tote (style NMTGIP) is made from faux giraffe micro fiber with a leatherette handle, a zippered top and a bottom gusset.
Maybe the most striking single items are the safari jacket for women and the field shirt for men. Each features epaulets on the shoulders, large button-through pockets – sometimes with imitation horn buttons – and for the women’s jacket, a sash belt. This look can be found in men’s shirts from Dickies (asi/49675) and from Outback Trading Co. (asi/75401), which offers the ladies’ excursion jacket.
Along with the basic shirt and jacket you can add vests, women’s walking shorts and military-style men’s jackets, all in various natural fabrics, such as linen, hemp, cotton and leather. Rounding out the sun-drenched safari theme are woven belts, chunky necklaces with tribal patterns, such as those available from Lauren Spencer (asi/74778), animal print scarves and bags, and various men’s and women’s hats, such as cavalry, safari or Indiana Jones styles.
The great thing about the safari look for promotional distributors is that it’s not only a hot look, but it also goes nicely with themed promotions for corporate events or trade shows. And since it’s composed of lots of different basics and add-on accessories, it’s an easy look to create.
From OTC/Lauren Spencer Inc. (asi/74778), top off a client’s safari look with this tribal-inspired necklace and earrings (style NL69).
From Sierra Pacific (asi/87224), the Featherlite Oxford (style 3231) is treated with Teflon making it stain resistant, in addition to wrinkle resistant.
Oxford Blues Preppy styles have been coming back in droves and the return of the oxford shirt (like it went somewhere?) is the latest darling of the under-30 set. Lots of different retail brands now are pushing the style and GQ recently did a spread of some high-end designer oxfords. If you’re still not convinced, consider this: American Apparel (asi/35297) has introduced the oxford to its retail stores. Talk about a shocker. What’s next, ties?
Selling Tip: Oxfords are popular on their own tucked or untucked for a more contemporary style. They can also be paired with sweaters or sweater vests for an additional sale.
From Hit Promotional Products (asi/61125), this mini bag, style 9450, shows how to use lime green as a primary color or fashion accent.
Could lime green be to the color of the next decade? The Magic 8-Ball says, “signs point to yes” – as does much of the fashion industry, which is releasing all kinds of apparel and accessories in lime green this year. This green is fresh and fun but doesn’t overpower your wardrobe, making it great for casual wear and business attire. It’s also a flattering color for both men and women, so everyone can take part in this trend.
Selling Tip: Lime green can be used both as a primary color and an accent. It’s a real eye-catching color for T-shirts, dresses and hats, but can also be incorporated into business attire in the form of a men’s tie and pocket square or ladies’ scarf, purse or headband.
