U.S. Warehouse Rental Rates Increase
Warehouse rental prices in the United States are skyrocketing as more and more businesses rely on e-commerce to sell their goods. Real-estate brokerage firm CBRE Inc. reports that rental rates for warehouse space near import gateways and population centers jumped 9.9% in 2015 over the previous year.
The almost 10% increase in the U.S. greatly exceeds the average 2.8% increase in leasing rates that CBRE measured around the world. Two-thirds of the nine markets with the strongest growth in rentals were located in America, with Oakland, CA, ranking as the fastest-growing market in the world. Growing 29.8% year-over-year, Oakland nearly doubles the rate of prices in the Northern New Jersey region, another hot U.S. market.
CEOs Slightly More Confident On Economy
Economic confidence among CEOs in the United States has increased for the first time in more than a year, albeit by the smallest of margins. A four-quarter streak of declining confidence ended as economic confidence among U.S. CEOs inched up 0.5 points to 59.6 in Q1, according to the latest Global Pulse Index from the Young Presidents' Organization.
However, a new streak has emerged as U.S. CEOs' economic confidence pales in comparison to that of European CEOs for the third consecutive quarter.
Two of the three key investment metrics in determining the YPO Global Pulse Index showed decline in the first quarter: fixed investment dropped by 1.5 points and employee count decreased by 0.6. Meanwhile, global sales confidence registered a 0.2 point bump.
