Brown & Bigelow
Hires CorpLogoWare's Baida
Baida will be responsible for attracting new salespeople to Brown & Bigelow, and he says that three former CorpLogoWare account executives have already agreed to join him at Brown & Bigelow. "Ultimately, my goal is to help Brown & Bigelow build its sales force."
For Brown & Bigelow,
the distributor believes it will benefit from Baida's
50-year career in the ad specialty market. "We are very
pleased that the Brown & Bigelow organization will benefit
from Marvin's vast experience and relationships," said
William D. Smith, Jr., executive vice president of Brown & Bigelow.
Baida, who says he will also be looking to bring new technological processes to Brown & Bigelow's order processing and supplier relationship systems, will be based in the company's Alpharetta, GA, office. Brown & Bigelow was ranked number 23 in last year's Counselor Top 40 with $67.1 million in 2006 North American ad specialty sales.
Jack Levine Dies
This follows a tumultuous several weeks for the company, which ceased operations last Monday amid a mountain of debt totaling more than $25 million. Prior to the company's liquidation, Levinea former Counselor Entrepreneur of the Yeartold Counselor that he accepted the blame for CorpLogoWare's problems. "I pressed too far too fast," Levine said. "I take full responsibility for everything that went wrong."
Counselor PromoGram will provide more details as they become available.
Editor's note: In the Breaking News Alert earlier today regarding the sensitive news of Jack Levine's passing, Counselor inadvertently ran advertisements adjacent to the story. The ads should not have been included. We apologize for the oversight.
It's Time to Recession-Proof Your Business
When it comes
to dealing with suppliers, now may be the time to find out how
far terms can be stretched. "Invest in relationships
with suppliers. Are there things that you can do to get better
terms?" says Angelo Santinelli, adjunct professor at Babson
College in Wellesley, MA. "Chances are they are hurting as
well, so figure out a way to share the pain."

Employees Prefer An Office
Being in the office helps maintain a level of professionalism, says Christine Moran, sales for American Solutions for Business (asi/120075). "You dress a certain way, you act a certain way. It would be crazy not to maintain a core office. For us to work at home, it would be a big inconvenience. We have to manage everything and we do it all together."Still, for others, working from home is not an issue. "It depends on the person," says Moran. "There are a lot of traditional reps who have an office in their homes. It depends on personality traits, strengths and weaknesses. If you can be disciplined and not have the kids at home, you can set aside time for work."
