an ongoing process involving the sale of the business. Allison Avin, Norwood
marketing communications manager, explains that Norwood had started examining
several strategic alternatives to maximize value to shareholders, and that
one possibility was a sale of the firm and/or its assets. However, after
exploring several sales opportunities, the company decided to discontinue
all sales-related efforts in favor of reducing operating expenses, growing
sales and maximizing profitability.

Discount retailers are the big winners this holiday season with a 3.9% increase
in sales over last year, says the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Stores are also expected to take in even more in January thanks to the sale of
gift cards, which are up 6.6% in November and December this year to total $18.5
billion, reports the National Retail Federation. Some are predicting their popularity
could signal a new trend in retail sales in January, away from clearance sales
