Acquires Global Promo Group
As first reported in PromoGram
on Tuesday, Investcorp announced
yesterday that it has purchased
Global Promo Group (GPG), the parent
company of Leed’s (asi/66887)
and Marlow International. Investcorp,
which bought Polyconcept (asi/78897)
in April, intends to combine Leed’s
with Polyconcept to create a global
promotional products firm with more than $650 million in sales
in 2004. Philippe Varnier, CEO of
Polyconcept, will become chairman
of the combined company, and Michael
of GPG, will serve as vice-chairman.

PromoGram that Investcorp,
along with GPG and Polyconcept management,
bought 100% of GPG stock. The New

will now be the headquarters location
for the U.S. operations of the newly
combined company. “Both companies
will continue to run their operations
as they currently exist,” Bernstein
says, “so customers will experience
no change in their daily activities.”
Buys Inventive Incentives Counselor Top 40
distributor Geiger Inc. (asi/202900)
has announced its intent to acquire
Inventive Incentives (asi/232050)
in Scottsdale, AZ. The transaction
will be completed in mid-June. Terms
were not disclosed. Bill Wright,
Inventive president, will remain
with the firm. "Inventive Incentives
is a well-established solid organization,
and a great match for us,”
said Jim Habzda, Geiger vice president
of sales/marketing. "This,
coupled with our recent acquisition
of Synergy in Tempe (asi/340874),
solidifies us in the Southwest.”

Talk about thinking outside the box. England
and Wales have begun advertising for the
priesthood in some unlikely locations; on
posters in the London Underground and on
beer coasters at the local pub. The campaign,
which has traditionally never left church
grounds, was created by the National Office
for Vocations, reports Catholic Online.
“By taking the campaign into other
areas of young people’s lives, we
are hoping it will give them something to
think about and keep the interest high,”
says Father Paul Embery, directory of the
vocations office. “Pope John Paul
didn’t spend all his time in the Vatican.
He went out and took his message to where
the people were.” If this doesn’t

Here’s an interesting informational
tidbits to toss out the next time a client
balks at price: AdAge ran a report
on the cost of advertising on the 11 prime
ad spaces on One and Two Times Square buildings.
The estimated cost for the two buildings
is between $200,000 and $350,000 a month
– that’s between $2.4 million
and $4.2 million annually. Other Times Square
prices range from $165,000 to $175,000 monthly.
And none of these include the cost of the
displays themselves. Considering the cost-per-impression
of logoed products, it’s easy to see
what the better bargain is. “You could
probably have someone standing in Times
Square handing out promotional products
with your company on them for 10 years and
still spend less and get better results
than advertising in Times Square for a year,”
says industry consultant Barry Chase.
