Vitronic/Four Seasons Parent Company Buys Admanco The parent company of Vitronic (asi/93990) and Four Seasons (asi/55200) has purchased Admanco Inc. (asi/32360) in a deal that was approved by a Wisconsin judge Monday. Admanco had been in receivership. Admanco will be merged with Vitronic/Four Seasons, says Brad Langton, vice president of sales and marketing for Admanco. Langton characterized the deal as very, very positive.
The parent company, EBSCO Industries, is a conglomerate that owns many companies, including EBSCO Promotional Products (asi/185750). EBSCO's companies are
operated separately by their own general manager. We're very excited to work with Admanco in the future, says Lori Kates, general manager of Vitronic/Four Seasons.
Kates says that 40 to 50 employees will be retained and that Admanco would keep an office in or around Ripon, WI. About 130 Admanco workers were laid off Dec. 30 and apparently will not get their jobs back. Press reports said the workers who will be retained were administrative and sales employees, and that Admanco's plant itself would be shuttered.
Deluxe To Sell PremiumWear The Associated Press reports that Deluxe Corp, parent firm of Deluxe Business Services (asi/178720), is currently seeking a buyer for its PremiumWear Inc. (asi/79393) apparel division, which it acquired in June 2004 as part of its purchase of New England Business Services. More information as we get it.
ASI Member Firms And ASI Employees Give To Tsunami Disaster The promotional products industry is responding to the tsunami disaster in South Asia. Since January 11, ASI member firms and ASI employees have sent over $37,000 in cash donations to the American Red Cross International Response Fund to support recovery efforts in South Asia. ASI is matching $25,000 of the amount, and donations continue to come in. Thanks to everyone who has sent a contribution. To donate, visit www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp . In the drop-down menu to the right of the donation amount box, select the International Response Fund. We've been advised that shipments of product aren't preferred at this time, due to challenges associated with distance and logistics. Thank you.
More Tsunami Aid Debbie Does Freight has offered not only to match any contributions from businesses and individuals in Cape Coral, FL, but it will donate $1 for every shipment it handles in the month of January.
In the last PromoGram under Tsunami Relief Efforts Continue, we mistakenly noted that 3M Corp. would be donating $1 worth of products to the victims. That should've been $1 million.
Industry Firms In The News With its traditionally biggest quarter recently ended and its national trade show season underway, the promotional products industry seems to be showing up everywhere in news reports. Consider:
Newell Rubbermaid Inc., parent company of Counselor Top 40 supplier Sanford Business-to-Business (asi/84833), is selling its Curver business to Jardin International Holding BV. The line of indoor storage products contributes $140 million to Newell's annuals sales.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal did an extensive story on promotional products, relying on the Advertising Specialty Institute's own Scott Fuhr for its statistics. (ASI is the publisher of PromoGram.) The News-Journal quoted Jay Young, owner of PS Printing and Marketing Inc. (asi/289052) ; Mary Corey, owner of Coastline Specialties (asi/163750) Vanessa Kaiser, co-owner of Anything Imprinted by Monarch (asi/122652).
Danny Rosin, owner of Brand Fuel (asi/145025), was recently part of a heartwarming story in the [Raleigh, NC] News & Observer. Rosin and four friends had gotten together after the Sept. 11 attacks to see what they might do positively for the community and their country. Out of their meetings have come a series of charitable block parties that have raised tens of thousands of dollars for firefighters, the Special Olympics, children's health charities and musicians from low-income homes. The group now plans to have two events per year.
People On The Move Advertising Concepts (asi/110390) has named Amanda Novelline a national accounts manager.
Idenification Plates (asi/62150) recently appointed Jim Westfall vice president of finance.
Selco Custom Time Corp. (asi/86230) has named Don Gerber vice president of sales/Central region.
SanMar (asi/84863) recently announced that Alisha Wheeler will become the company's Southwest sales rep.
Corrections: In the Xerox case history on page 50 of the December Counselor, the quote in the next to last paragraph was actually from Beth Cokely of American Identity (asi/120601).
On page 98 of the January Counselor, the wrong ASI number was provided for Vantage Apparel. The correct ASI number is 93390.
