Beanstalk Purchased, Changes Name Just a few months after its purchase by “a group of investors,” Top 40 distributor Beanstalk Promotional Products (asi/155460), the promotional merchandise management division of Beanstalk Group, has been acquired by CI Technology Group (CITG), a holding of Combine International a major mass-market wholesaler/ manufacturer/ distributor based in Troy, MI. The firm has been renamed Evigna. Steve Lemberg, formerly Evigna executive vice president, has been named CEO. Shan Mehta, CITG principal, has assumed the title of president/co-chairman, and investor Jeff
Beckett will serve as co-chairman. The firm has been awarded minority certification by the Michigan Minority Business Development Council and National Minority Supplier Development Council, effectively making Evigna the industry’s largest minority distributorship. Beanstalk Group, the former parent firm, is majority owned by Ford Motor Corp. Evigna will continue to maintain Ford as a client, along with other major accounts like Cadbury Schweppes, General Electric, NBC, Marriott and General Motors.
Andrews: “Hurricane Victims Still Need Your Help” This week ASI President Tim Andrews sent out an email to all ASI members thanking them for their donations to hurricane victims, pointing out that more still needs to be done. “As our friends and neighbors in Florida continue to be pounded by hurricanes, I wanted to take a moment to remind you that the relief efforts there need your continued help. Proforma’s Vera Muzzillo Named Printing Industry Visionary Vera Muzzillo, co-CEO of Counselor Top 40 distributor Proforma Inc. (asi/300094), was featured in a Printing Impressions magazine article called “20/40 Visionaries – Young Turks Set the Pace.” Muzzillo, 39, was one of 20 under-40 executives featured in the magazine. The article tells Muzzillo’s story of the award-winning Notre Dame finance major who, at the beginning, was just a consultant to Proforma, but gradually found herself assuming a more central role. As you remember, Muzzillo, and husband, Greg, were featured in a July Counselor story: “Proforma’s Power Couple.”
PPAI Pushing Collegiate Industry Education Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) will be mailing a kit to nearly 500 marketing and advertising professors nationwide, to assist them in teaching promotional products as a valid ad medium. “Typically, students come away with a degree in marketing or advertising, but have no knowledge about this viable and universal form of advertising,” said Steve Slagle, CAE, PPAI president. “There's ample research that points to the effectiveness of promotional products, but almost nothing can be found in most college textbooks on the subject. We want to fix that.”
Cintas Changes Tagline Top 40 distributor Cintas Corp. (asi/162167) has changed its corporate tagline from “The Uniform People” to “Cintas, The Service Professionals.” The change, notes Scott Farmer, Cintas president/CEO, was made to reflect that fact that the firm’s non-uniform customers – for services like cleaning supplies, entrance mats, corporate apparel, promotional products, etc. - now represent over 50% of its total customer base. The change followed an announcement of Cintas achieving 35 consecutive years of sales/earnings growth – a record matched by only one other public company: Wal-Mart.
