Cenveo Licenses New Kind Of Envelope The parent company of Counselor Top 40 supplier Cenveo says it’s become the first licensee of a new kind of envelope called Conformer Expansion Products Inc. The envelope is versatile enough so that it expands to fit contents and is efficient for mechanical insertion, Cenveo says. Previously, envelopes that had to accommodate more than a quarter-inch of contents had to be “gusseted,” which is more expensive and lacks “presentation appeal,” according to Cenveo officials. To see if they’re right, go to www.conformerproducts.com.
Pennsylvania Senator Gives Voters Phonecards As Thank You One of the best-known politicians in the Philadelphia area celebrated an unusually challenging primary win by distributing 40,000 phonecards to voters in his state legislative district. State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo put his image and the words “Thank You” on the five-minute cards, which cost his campaign more than $30,000.
Spiderman In-Pack Snared By Environmental Laws A Kellogg Co. promotion for Spiderman got entangled in the state environmental regulations of New York, Connecticut and New Hampshire. The company put “Spidey-Signal” wristbands with mercury batteries into its cereal boxes. The wristbands project an image of a web, a red spider or Dr. Octopus. Kellogg says it will pull cereal with the toys from shelves in Connecticut and New Hampshire, which have restrictions on selling novelty items with mercury batteries. Kellogg won’t pull cereal from New York shelves, but it won’t send any new Spiderman toys there. New York has mercury restrictions starting Jan. 1, 2005. Kellogg has also agreed not to use mercury batteries for future toys and to help consumers recycle existing batteries. The cereal company, however, says its toys were safe and that they don’t affect the quality of its food.
NASCAR Clarification On page 46 of the July Counselor, the article about distributor Bensussen Deutsch & Associates’ (asi/137616) NASCAR license indicated that its license was exclusive and that all NASCAR promo product orders had to go through BD&A, which had sole rights. This is, in fact, incorrect; there are actually six other NASCAR license holders in the industry. The incorrect information was published in the Puget Sound Business Journal, which later ran a correction.
