Google Adds New Promotional Features

Google has just made it easier for small businesses to attract new customers while strengthening relationships with existing clients. The tech juggernaut announced last week that within its Google My Business application, users can now post about products and promotional offers. Since launching last year, the application previously only allowed businesses to share news or hype upcoming events.

“With 82% of people turning to search engines to find local information, your Google listing is the ideal place to showcase what is unique about your business,” said Rosa Wu, product manager at Google My Business.

If you sign up for a Google business listing, you can share relevant information that appears as a post under your business’ name on Google Search and Google Maps. With 70% of users looking at multiple businesses before making a final purchase, the post option allows you to stand out from the pack, providing various media to entice the user.

Product posts require a title and either a photo or video, and also include a call-to-action (CTA) button that users can click to purchase or find more information. Offer posts give more flexibility, requiring a title and start/end dates and times. A "View offer" CTA button is automatically added to the post. You can also include a link, photo/video, coupon code and terms and conditions within the post.
