It should come as no surprise that Ben & Jerry’s has a knack for clever merch. After all, the Vermont ice cream maker is known as much for its tongue-in-cheek names as the mouthwatering flavor combinations themselves. Think Karamel Sutra, Chubby Hubby, Oat of This Swirled and Keep Caramel and Cookie On.
Ben & Jerry’s merch line has a robust apparel section, including tie-dye T-shirts and baby onesies. There are tees with slogans like “I Like to Spoon” and “Body by Ben & Jerry’s.” Some of the apparel links ice cream to social causes: One design features an ice cream cone with a melting, Earth-patterned scoop and the phrase, “If it’s melted, it’s ruined.” Another proclaims that “Love comes in all flavors” and depicts a row of cows in rainbow colors.
However, the sweetest merch is reserved for the ice cream pints themselves. There’s a snug knit sleeve with a loop to hold a wooden spoon. The $8.99 accessory slips over pints so ice cream lovers can indulge without freezing their fingers. And for just a dollar more, there’s the “Pint Lock,” which Ben & Jerry’s describes as a “state-of-the-art security system.” The device fits on top of the pint lid and features a combination lock to deter would-be treat thieves. A #sorrynotsorry message scrawled along the rim notes: “I’m terribly sorry, but there’s no ‘U’ in ‘my pint.’”
As the company says, it’s “about as close as you can get to Fort Knox for your frozen treasures.” I don’t know about you, but I feel safer already.
