Top 40 Supplier Ennis Inc. (asi/52493) on Monday announced the acquisition of Kay Toledo Tag and Special Service Partners in a stock purchase that closed December 31. The $25 million company, with locations in Toledo, OH, and Neenah, WI, specializes in digital printing and customer short-run printing, producing tags, labels, tickets and other commercial printing. With the purchase, Ennis has increased to five its tag production facilities, with a presence in Texas, Iowa, Ohio and Wisconsin.
Keith Walters, chairman, president and CEO, said Midlothian, TX-based Ennis is delighted to incorporate Kay Toledo Tag’s expertise. “The Kay family will be instrumental in bringing their skills and know-how in this market to the Ennis organization, and we believe they will allow us to grow this business in all segments of the tag and label market,” he added.
Dan Kay, president of Kay Toledo Tag, said his family was excited about the deal. “The ability to market to a broader customer base with more geographic and product diversity will strengthen the business and allow Kay Toledo Tag to expand,” he said. “The financial strength of Ennis will allow us to grow this business and serve our customers.”
According to Ennis, Kay Toledo Tag and Special Service Partners will retain the company name, with all locations continuing normal operations. Ennis, which sells forms, apparel and other business products, ranks as the fifth-largest supplier in the industry, after reporting 2013 North American promotional products sales of $239 million, an increase of 1.6% over the previous year.
