Toy Airplane Recalled Because of Choking Threat

Product safety officials in the U.S. and Canada have announced a recall on a wooden toy airplane. Rubber tires can separate from the plane’s wheels, posing a choking hazard to children. While there have been at least two incidents of rubber tires coming off, no injuries have been reported, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. “Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children,” a CPSC recall notice said.

Imported and distributed by Manhattan Toy Company, LLC of Minneapolis, MN, the Pull-Back Speedy Jet features a blue-painted body, natural wood wings and plastic wheels with black rubber tires. The toy has a pull-back feature that propels the plane forward. The recall only includes toy planes with lot code 155400 EJ. The model number and lot code are printed on the bottom of the plane.

About 5,100 of the toys sold for about $8 in the U.S. at small independent stores from August 2017 through June 2018. Manufactured in China, about 935 of the planes retailed in Canada.

Product safety officials are encouraging consumers who bought the jets to return them to stores where they were purchased or to contact Manhattan Toy for a full refund.
