Denim never goes out of style. That’s because it’s “comfortable to wear and easy to coordinate with other colors and materials,” says Gina Barreca, marketing director at Vantage Apparel (asi/93390). Chambray and other lightweight denim fabrics are particularly trendy for the coming season, she adds.
Taraynn Lloyd, marketing director at Edwards Garment (asi/51752), adds that the fabric looks good on everyone, which contributes to its popularity. Embroidery is a great choice for decoration in the promotional industry and beyond. “Denim is a soft but durable fabric and is easy to embroider,” Lloyd says. “The fabric seems to like having the embroidered stitch applied to it. In addition to traditional decoration emblems, patches and even heat-transfer decals work well on denim.”
Screen printing, laser appliqué and laser etching work well too, Barreca points out, and she believes the versatile material will continue to draw attention. “Denim shirts and jackets play into the modern prep trend,” she says. “Retail designers will be mixing fabrics with denim to give items a new twist, such as adding lace on pockets or cuffs.”
