From the runway to the streets, offering both fashion and function, mesh has made its way onto a myriad of apparel and accessories.“Mesh has many advantages over other materials. It’s breathable, allowing air to flow through easily,” says Jamie Allen, marketing director of HTT Apparel & Headwear (asi/58842). “It also adds dimension and texture, sometimes giving a garment a completely different look.” Playing up mesh embellishments with different colors can add interest and dimension as well.
According to Allen, mesh appeals to all age groups and multiple markets, for different reasons: “We have a lot of construction and outdoor companies that use mesh for its breathability and durability,” he says. “Mesh is also a fashion trend; we find several companies using it for concerts, retail stores and clothing lines.” The athletic market is a smart choice as well – from little leaguers to pros – as players need to stay cool during practice and games. Gyms and fitness clubs are natural markets to target, too. Consider offering clients jerseys, shorts, pants, hats and shoes featuring mesh and moisture-wicking properties.
