A fusion of peachy summer sunsets and bright autumn leaves and, Pantone’s Cadmium Orange is a gorgeous fashion staple for the upcoming months.
“The market for orange is very wide,” says Eric Rubin, president of Blue Generation (asi/40653). “While it’s a youthful color often used in athletics, we see big-box stores like Home Depot that have become very identifiable by the color. ... Orange is particularly popular in 100% moisture-wicking shirts, which come in solids and colorblocking. These appeal to all ages.”
Rubin also mentions orange makes a wonderful backdrop against logos to help the message stand out. Shades that pop against orange include black and graphite, “to give it an up-to-date techno look,” Rubin explains. He has seen orange’s popularity in athletic wear glide seamlessly into streetwear and the fashion world.
“Cadmium Orange evokes a sentiment of optimism, fun and fantasy,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Both playful and sophisticated in its appeal, Cadmium Orange is a warm, welcoming and subtly dramatic orange shade that’s striking enough to stand on its own or act as a bold contrast.”
