Demand for Vehicle Wrap Prompts Construction

It was a classic case of chutzpah that led Moorhead, MN-based Personal Touch to add vehicle wraps to its long list of decoration methods. The full-service marketing company’s motto is: “If you can dream it, we can do it.” A customer asked President Cheri Johnson if Personal Touch could really do anything, as the shop claimed. “We can do everything,” Johnson replied. When the customer inquired whether that included vehicle wraps, Johnson said yes, even though Personal Touch had never attempted the process before. “We smarted off, more or less,” Johnson recalls with a laugh.

Employees quickly figured out how to use their digital printing equipment to produce an impressive vehicle wrap for a 48-foot-long bus. That first job spawned many more. Today, the decorating shop carries several certifications for the process and recently constructed a 9,000-square-foot addition to house its growing vehicle wrap division.

Personal Touch has evolved a lot since it opened in a 2,200-square-foot rental space a quarter of a century ago. Johnson started out offering embroidery, but soon added promotional products, screen printing, engraving, digital printing and other services. Johnson purchased a larger building 13 years ago. With the recent vehicle wrap expansion, the building has grown to about 28,000 square feet. “You’ve just got to keep everything rolling,” Johnson says of her shop’s continued growth. “It’s a balancing act. … The biggest thing is just keeping your eye on the ball, focusing and continuing to go forward.”

Personal Touch has been getting so many requests for vehicle wrap work like this bus that the Moorhead, MN, company had to construct a 9,000-square-foot addition to accommodate the growing aspect of its business.
