Jamie Nicholson travels to Mozambique every few years on a missionary trip with his local church in Fort Wayne, IN. For two weeks, he spreads the gospel to villages and communities, developing friendships with the natives and sharing spiritual beliefs.
“They love the old white guy coming in because I look different,” says Nicholson, who will be returning to the African country this coming July.
Whether it’s in missionary work or in sales, Nicholson finds the most joy when connecting with people. “It’s about relationships,” Nicholson says. “I focus on making my customers have a better day and spreading Christ’s message to those who haven’t heard it.”
An account manager at JH Specialty, Nicholson has spent 15 years in the industry, achieving consistent growth. In 2016, he reached a career high with a 25% year-over-year sales increase. “Some good luck, great clients like Medical Protective and hard work all have allowed me to exceed the goals I set out at the first of the year,” Nicholson says.
He’s come a long way from his first sale – a $300 pen order from a buddy’s dad who was a local barber in town. It took him six stressful months to get that order, but he learned a lifelong lesson from it. “You do the best you can, but you win some and you lose some,” Nicholson says. “If you act like you don’t need it, it takes the pressure off.”
