How to Increase Work-At-Home Productivity

FACT: Government data shows that 3.7 million U.S. employees telecommute at least half the time.

1. Never stay in your pajamas. Recent studies have shown that getting dressed as if you’re going to the office helps boost confidence and competence.

2. Section off a designated workspace. While it’s tempting to plop your laptop on the kitchen table, it’s far better to set up a desk in a room that’s not a common area. It’ll allow you to close the door for calls and be less distracted.

3. While flexible schedules are great, you still need to label certain hours of the day as “working hours.” Then, make sure everyone in your house knows what the hours are. Some people use “will return” clocks to remind everyone in their home that they’re busy.

4. Take breaks. One of the benefits of working at home is you get to spend more time with family, friends and pets. So take your dog for a walk or stop and have lunch with your kids. You’ll be happier and feel more fulfilled.
