Get A Handle On Virtual Reality

What are the two types of VR?
360-degree VR is a video that allows viewers to see all around them in what’s called a videosphere while remaining stationary. Immersive VR is a virtual space that people can move around in and interact with through hand controllers and body movements.
Get A Handle On Virtual Reality

How can VR be viewed?
Through different types of headsets. For 360-degree VR, people can insert smartphones into VR viewers that cost up to about $70. Immersive VR usually requires all-in-one headsets that cost hundreds of dollars.

Future Applications of VR:

Shoppers in retail stores will use VR to get added product information and see an item’s potential uses.

Salespeople will talk to prospects with realistic virtual conversations thanks to improved graphics and eye contact through eye movement tracking.

Students will enjoy full-immersion tours of entire college campuses and the towns surrounding them, and then can apply on the spot.

People will drive a car they’re considering buying with fully immersive VR, complete with AR overlays on the features. They’ll be able to buy the car immediately and have it delivered to their driveway within days.

How is VR content made?
360-degree VR is created using 360-degree cameras (about $200-$500), as well as with apps for Android and iOS. Immersive VR requires a specialized development team – the cost can be in the tens of thousands of dollars or more, depending on the complexity of the content.

Where is VR content available?
Online through videos and apps as well as entertainment options like videogames. Events, promotions, museums and more are increasingly offering VR experiences.
