Accolade Merges With Parent DivisionsAs first reported in a Breaking News Alert on Friday, Top 40 Canadian distributor Accolade Promotion Group (asi/102905) announced that its parent company, Golfsmith International, is merging its promotional products divisions under one leadership team. As a result of the restructuring, the Golf Town Corporate Sales and Golfsmith Business Pro Shop teams will become part of Accolade effective December 29, 2013. All divisions will continue to operate as part of Golfsmith International, a specialty golf retailer based in Austin, TX. The move also marks Accolade’s entry into the U.S. market.

“The addition of the Golf Town and Golfsmith teams results in a formidable footprint across Canada, and a new beginning for APG in the U.S.,” said Dan Craig, Accolade’s managing director and a member of Counselor’s Power 50, who will lead the combined business. “Our customers across North America will have access to the most comprehensive mix of promotional and golf merchandise, as well as more dedicated resources to service their needs. Likewise, our partners will benefit from an unprecedented opportunity for long-term, sustainable growth.”

Accolade said that as a result of the deal it will be increasing its sales staff by 60% and will formally be entering the U.S. promotional products market as its readies its operations for 2014. The company currently ranks as the largest distributor in Canada (by revenues), and is number 23 on Counselor’s Top 40, after reporting 2012 North American ad specialty sales of $70.7 million.
