Industry Firms Accept Ice Bucket Challenge
Are You One Of Them?
Top 40 firms Hub Pen Company (asi/61966) and The Vernon Company (asi/351700) are two of the latest ad specialty businesses to take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge – an international viral video campaign that’s raising awareness about Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Co-workers recently dumped buckets of ice water on several Hub Pen employees, including President Joseph Fleming, General Manager Bob McGaughey and National Sales Manager Andy Arruda. Afterwards, Hub then challenged Dave Regan, vice president of sales and marketing at Vernon, who accepted.
“We are so proud of the way our employees have come together to raise awareness and funds for this cause,” said Fleming. “It was a lot of fun but it’s important to remember how debilitating this disease is.”
The $1,195 Hub raised will be donated in memory of Tina Farnsworth, an employee who died from Lou Gehrig’s Disease, also known as ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that effectively paralyzes the body while the mind is left intact. About 30,000 Americans currently are stricken with ALS, which has no cure.
The Ice Bucket Challenge started two weeks ago when a former college baseball player – who has ALS himself – used social media to invite celebrities to dump a bucket of ice water on their heads, and donate to ALS research. Since that initial post, Oprah, LeBron James, Bill Gates and countless others have accepted the challenge, and more than $15 million has been donated by people around the world.
Besides Hub and Vernon, employees from several other industry firms, including Jetline (asi/63344) and Brand Fuel (asi/145025), have also taken on the Ice Bucket Challenge.
