Obituary: Dick Dunphy Sr.
He Was 92
Dick Dunphy Sr., the founder of Dick Dunphy Advertising Specialties Inc. (asi/184100), died of complications of congestive heart failure on April 25. He was 92.
In 1945, after his military service in World War II, Dunphy joined the distributor firm of Joseph S. Fisher. Dunphy then went on to found Dick Dunphy Advertising Specialties Inc. in 1963, which he grew into one of the largest distributors in New York City. Dunphy remained president of the firm until his retirement in 2010 when his son, Dick Jr (Rich), assumed leadership of the company.
“He was very successful in this business and he loved it,” said Rich Dunphy about his father. “He was one determined guy. He was so dedicated to his company and his customers and this industry.”
Dunphy was the beloved husband of Cecelia and the late Kathleen, father of Irene Goldberg, Richard, Thomas and Paul Dunphy, David and Wayne Mowry. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial for Dunphy will be April 29 at Madonna Chapel and Cemetery, Ft. Lee, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in the name of Dick Dunphy Sr. can be made to the Catholic Medical Mission Board, 10 West 17th Street, New York, NY 10011.
