ASI Editor Honored with Prestigious Neal Award

Supplier Global Resource is only industry publication to win coveted national award

TREVOSE, PA - March 17, 2011 - The Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI) today announced Supplier Global Resource Editor Michele Bell was honored with a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award from American Business Media.

The prestigious Neal awards are considered the Pulitzer Prize of business journalism. Bell was honored with a Best News Coverage award for her story, "Asia’s Seismic Shift," in the July/August 2010 issue detailing how labor unrest and other issues in China would affect suppliers in the promotional products industry.

Bell, a member of ASI's editorial team for 14 years, has been editor of Supplier Global Resource magazine since its inception in 2005. She is a recipient of various awards for journalistic excellence, including multiple FOLIO: and American Society of Business Publication Editors awards.

"Everyone at ASI is unbelievably proud of ace reporter and editor Michele Bell, a world-class journalist who never fails to deliver the goods," said Rich Fairfield, ASI’s executive vice president and publisher. "Once again, an ASI publication has been recognized for going above and beyond to report the news that’s most important to our online and print readers, making our publications the go-to resource for the advertising specialty industry."

American Business Media held its 57th annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards ceremony March 10 at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City.

In addition, two other ASI magazines were finalists for Neal awards, which set a new record for ASI’s editorial department: the first time it’s been nominated for three Neals in a single year. In the past five years, ASI publications have won four Neals and been nominated for four.

The nominations were for:

Best Single Article: Wearables, for Editor C.J. Mittica’s article, "From Seed to Shirt," which details his 2,700-mile journey from Texas to Guatemala to show how organic clothing is made.

Best Educational Content: Counselor State of the Industry issue, edited by Andy Cohen, which contains trend stories, how-to tips and profiles written by numerous staffers.

ASI publishes eight catalogs and five magazines - Advantages, Counselor, Stitches, Supplier Global Resource and Wearables - in addition to the Successful Promotions Trend Report e-newsletter. ASI publications have won 39 recent editorial awards, including three Jesse H. Neal Awards.
