So, What Do You Do?
By Kathy Huston

I could just say I do it all. That’s what I’m always telling my husband and kids. However, I’d probably say, “Hi, I’m Kathy, and I’m in charge of bringing helpful information, insights and ideas to advertising specialty sales professionals through a magazine, e-newsletter, videos and even a weekly radio show.”

As you can tell, I’ve been thinking about what I would tell someone if I had to give a brief description of what I do, because that’s what our cover story is about this issue. We held a “Best Elevator Pitch” contest and Greg Johnston of Pacific Age (asi/289177) is our lucky … and clever … winner.

Jen Zorger, who wrote the article, and I chose Greg’s pitch because it is specific, highlighted well-known companies he works with and touted a cool, new idea he had for Molson Brewery. Plus, it was to the point (no longer than 30 seconds; people have short attention spans). You can read Greg’s whole pitch in “Take Your Elevator Pitch to the Next Level,” starting on p. 65. It’s a fun and informative read.

We had more fun with elevator pitches during our ASI Internet Radio Show, which was broadcast live from the Orlando ASI Show. Only this time, they were really escalator pitches as Staff Writer (and multi-media lackey) Dave Vagnoni traveled down the convention center escalator with three contestants, charged with giving their best pitch and completing it by the time they reached the floor. It was quite a hoot and they all did a terrific job, including Dave who managed to run up the escalator three times without getting winded. That’s something I’m not sure any of us other show hosts could do. It’s a good thing he’s young and in shape.

So, why not get started reading this edition, designed to keep you in shape too … as far as your sales go at least.

Enjoy!
