'This award is the result of the hard work of thousands
of people,” said Andrews. “I think everyone
who contributes to disaster relief efforts deserves a ‘thank
you’, especially over the course of the last year,
when our world has faced unprecedented hardships. At
this time of the year when we think about others more than
ourselves, let’s remember that the American Red Cross
often serves as the place for people to turn to for help
in many unforeseen events.”
Several donation drives, spearheaded by Andrews and ASI,
have raised over $400,000 for hurricanes and tsunami disaster
relief efforts in the last two years. Over $272,000
has been collected for hurricane relief efforts in 2005.
The American Red Cross, Lower Bucks County Chapter, has been impressed with the
dedication of Tim Andrews and ASI, and invited him to serve on its board of directors
this year.
Toni Hansen, executive director for the Chapter, said “Absolutely outstanding. ASI
and Tim Andrews have stepped-up and exceeded the expectations of the American
Red Cross. Andrews, ASI, its employees and ASI members deserve this award.”
Red Cross Adopt-A-Family Program
Advertising Specialty Institute participated in the Red
Cross Adopt-A-Family Program for the 2005 holiday
season. ASI employees "adopted" 41 children
from the Lower Bucks County American Red Cross homeless
shelter.
ASI had about 17 teams, with a total of about 215 employees
that were matched with 41 children ranging in age from
six months to 18 years. Employees purchased and wrapped
gifts which were taken to the local Red Cross chapter in
Lower Bucks County.
ASI President Tim Andrews, who sits on the board of the
Lower Bucks Red Cross chapter, said he was somewhat surprised
by the staff's response to his request for donations. But
ASI employees are a charitable bunch, he said, They host
food drives and donate to the Red Cross, the United Way
and MANNA, an organization that raises money during the
holidays for families affected by AIDS.
"We like to directly help people," Andrews said. "We like the
fact that there's a very short space between our donation and money getting
to somebody."
Wellness Program
The Wellness Program is a certificate program that promotes healthy lifestyles. Some of ASI wellness programs include: Weight Control Programs, CPR Training, Flu Shots and Health Screenings.
