Obituary: Bob Perlmutter, Pencoa

(2/17/2014)

Bob Perlmutter, founder of New York-based supplier Pencoa (asi/77040) and the first Marvin Spike Lifetime Achievement Award winner, died on February 6 following a battle with melanoma. He was 86.

Perlmutter began Pencoa in 1976, building the family-run firm into one of the leading suppliers of writing instruments in the ad specialty industry. He continued to work at the company as CEO well into his 80s. “He was one of the most honorable and ethical people anywhere,” said Rick Perlmutter, president of Pencoa, speaking about his father. “He built long-lasting relationships and he was very deserving of the recognition he received. But, most of all for him, family always came first.”

Perlmutter is survived by his wife Helen, children Marty, Karyn and Rick, as well as six grandchildren. Services for Perlmutter were held on Sunday, February 9 at Sinai Chapels in Fresh Meadows, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Perlmutter’s honor to the Weizmann Institute of Science or the Israel Cancer Research Fund.
