Community Service Programs
ASI encourages all employees to lend a helping hand to their local community. Some of the opportunities include contributing to United Way and Red Cross. ASI employees also participate in a holiday Adopt-a-Family, a Boy Scouts Food Drive and a Marine’s Toys for Tots collection. ASI also matches any funds employees donate to United Way agencies each year.
ASI® and Its Employees Honored for Generous Donations
In 2009, ASI employees donated a total of $7,217 to the fifth annual Adopt-A-Family fund, which benefits the American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Homeless Shelter. A total of 18 teams comprised of 322 employees participated in the annual toy drive. All told, 57 children received an average of $127 worth of gifts during the holiday season.
In honor of Tim Andrews’ service, dedication and enthusiasm, the Lower Bucks County chapter of the American Red Cross saluted ASI’s president and CEO, and the staff of ASI, with a certificate of appreciation in December 2008. In addition to the toy drive, ASI employees have participated in the Red Cross Hero’s Breakfast and on-site blood drives.
“We value his service,” says Red Cross CEO Kendria McWilliams, who lauded the former Red Cross board member for encouraging volunteerism at the company. “The people here are very giving.”
"We’re eager to help," said Andrews. “We love these programs and we love being involved. If the Red Cross had ASI’s level of engagement from 10 other companies, just think what we could accomplish.”
Previously, the American National Red Cross presented its prestigious Circle of Humanitarians award to Andrews and ASI, to recognize outstanding corporate philanthropy achievements. The award is given to donors by the American Red Cross to express appreciation for raising more than $50,000 in support of its many relief efforts around the U.S.
Several donation drives, spearheaded by Andrews and ASI, have raised over $400,000 for hurricanes and tsunami disaster relief efforts in recent years. In 2009 alone, ASI employees donated over $8,000 through donated payroll deductions.
United Way Contributions Over the Top
This year, ASI contributed $16,578 to the United Way of Bucks County – beating the company's goal of $16,000.
Last year, employees contributed $15,000, which was a huge improvement over prior years, when annual collections averaged $2,500.
"We are over our goal again," said Carol Albright, senior VP of human resources. "Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year's campaign and to the Cohn family for their generous dollar-for-dollar matching funds."
In addition, the United Way recently featured ASI in its email newsletter along with a photo from Field Day, when the sale of raffle tickets raised more than $1,200 for the organization.
In the story, the non-profit called ASI's fundraising efforts "hard to beat" and credited strong leadership from the Cohn family and employees. "The biggest reason is their people," United Way said. "They have fun and really enjoy giving back."

Fund-Raising Efforts Lauded
Chuck Machion (at left) recently accepted a Leaders in our Community Award from the American Red Cross on behalf of CEO Tim Andrews and ASI.
The award recognizes members and organizations in the community who raise funds on behalf of the Lower Bucks County American Red Cross. ASI was one of eight organizations/individuals recognized at the Red Cross annual meeting, held June 10 at the Yardley Country Club.

That amount includes $620,000 for the American Red Cross to assist hurricane victims, over $25,000 for the Adopt-A-Family program, five tons of donated items to food banks and homeless shelters, $60,000 to PPEF (an industry education fund), chairman Norman Cohn and his family's efforts to raise about $1 million for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.cohnsisters.com), and over $64,000 for CEO Tim Andrews' personally-established food bank fund in his native state of Indiana.
Red Cross Pro/Am Golf Tournament
The American Red Cross held its annual Tournament of Champions on Tuesday, May 25th at Makefield Highlands Golf Club. The event benefits the programs and services of the Lower Bucks County Chapter of the Red Cross.
Although this was the sixth anniversary of the event, it was the first time for the Pro/Am format. ASI sponsored two teams; each team of three amateurs paired with a Pro.
Team One consisted of Brian Clark, Brian Kurek and Mark Quinn paired with pro Dave Mickelowski. Team Two included Ryan Law, Stan Fellerman and Jake Krolick and were paired with pro Kevin Nicholson.
Both teams played well during the shamble format tournament. Team One finished with amateur score of three over par, 74, and a pro score of 77. In the field of over 50 teams, Team Two finished third overall with an amateur score of two over par, 73,and a pro score of 71.
